Welcome to my new blog – Bookish!

The work of a good book is to incite the reader to moral action, to turn his eyes towards God and to urge him forward — A.W. Tozer

Welcome to Bookish – a blog for those who love to read Christian books. Here I will occasionally post Christian reviews and articles on Christian living and doctrine.

My name is Jesvin Jose, and I live in Bangalore, India. My wife’s name is Lincy Jesvin and I have a 3 year old son whom we call Christoff! We worship in a Presbyterian Church here in Bangalore, India. I love reading new and old Christian books! That’s what I will be posting about – mostly!

This blog has been long time coming. I have been writing book reviews for a while now and I was always encouraged by friends and family to convert that writing to a full time blog. But my main encouragement came from this article by Tim Challies, where he encourages individuals to start blogging by choosing a theme, among other things. Since I love books (which are one of many means that God has used in my life personally to help know Him better), I hope to encourage a reading culture among my friends and family through this blog. Books don’t have any magical power, for sure. They are just means that God uses for a greater end (knowing Him), much like a sermon or a Bible-study. Further, books don’t replace the Bible, which is our primary means of knowing God! But if we keep books in their proper place and use them as a means of knowing God, there is much to learn and grow. As Tozer says in the quote above, a good book will incite us to moral action and turn our eyes to God! I hope the blog, in recommending good gospel-centered books, will serve that end!

Just to make one thing clear at the outset: It is okay if you don’t agree with my articles or book reviews. Yes, you can convey that to me, but I hope our conversations display gentleness and humility. I hope we bring glory to God through our online dialogues. Hope you enjoy reading as I hope to enjoy recommending solid gospel-centered resources! Soli Deo Gloria!

Stay tuned for more updates and blog posts!

  2. Jesvin, I wanted to extend a personal thank you. In multiple venues, you’ve spoken kindly about my book, With These Words. I’m personally blessed that it served you and also personally thankful for the kindness you’ve extended. Blessings to you.
